What is CampRedhawk?

Camp Redhawk
Southeast Missouri State University students share their experiences from Camp Redhawk

CampRedhawk is a summer leadership camp designed for new students preparing to enter their first semester at Southeast Missouri State University. It will offer an introduction to campus life and traditions, immerse you in school spirit, and introduce you to other new Redhawks. You will become more familiar with campus and the community where you will spend the next four years.

If you are enthusiastic about your upcoming college experience, and like meeting new people, CampRedhawk is for you!

There will be four sessions in the summer 2018. 

  • Sunday, June 10-Wednesday, June 13
  • Monday, June 18-Thursday, June 21 *
  • Sunday, July 8-Wednesday, July 11
  • Sunday, July 15-Wednesday, July 18

*This session is encouraged for students who would like to attend the June 22, 2018 First STEP Orientation date. This session would be excellent for students coming from farther away who would like to have both experiences and only make one trip to Cape Girardeau this summer. Housing is available for June 21-22 for these students, upon request.

You'll be busy! Activities will include:
  • Southeast's high ropes course
  • Competing in team challenges
  • Getting to know campus and Cape Girardeau
  • Learning tips and tricks for involvement and success from current student leaders
  • Experiencing the "Redhawks Rally"
Basic Schedule
 The Essentials:
    • Insurance information
    • Comfortable, casual clothing
      • Include a Southeast shirt, or a red or black shirt for activities on Monday
    • Active wear for physical activities
      • Ropes Course: We recommend that you wear longer shorts or athletic/yoga pants and a t-shirt with sleeves for this event. Many students have recommended bringing a spandex type material for under your shorts to increase comfort during this event.
    • Tennis shoes or other footwear suitable for significant walking and activities
      • Two pairs recommended
    • Personal toiletries including handsoap and required medicines, and towel for bathroom.
    • Bed linens, including pillows
    • Sunblock and bug spray
    • Light snacks
Optional things:
      • While no money beyond the cost of the camp is required, we do advise students to bring some spending money for outside snacks or treats, visits to the bookstore, etc. All meals are covered by the camp fee. 
      • Small fan (residence hall is air conditioned). 
Are there things I cannot bring?

Yes.

      • Candles
      • Firearms, knives, or any kind of weapon
      • Drugs and alcohol
      • Fireworks

We also encourage you to not bring any unnecessary valuable items. Time to use laptops, tablets, etc. is very limited.

The charge for CampRedhawk is $180.00. You can make a payment upon registration, or pay later via secured link from your confirmation email. 

The fee cannot be covered by university scholarship awards or financial aid; however, limited scholarships for participants with demonstrated financial need are available. Submit scholarship inquiries to campredhawk@semo.edu. 

The cost for students staying an additional night after the Monday, June 18-Thursday, June 21 session is $30. This will cover the additional housing and meals.

If you do not make payment during registration, please save the confirmation email which will contain your secure link to make payment at a later date. 

Students registering to attend the Monday, June 18-Thursday, June 21 session and stay an additional night to attend FirstSTEP Orientation on Friday, June 22 can also complete that registration at the above link and make the additional payment at that time. 

We are so excited you registered for camp! Below is some basic information and some required paperwork that each camper will receive via email about 2-3 weeks before their session; however, we hope some of you are so excited for camp that you just can't wait for an email from us, so we have compiled some of the information below:

Basic Camp Schedule

Liability & Medical Forms (to be completed and returned at your camp check-in).
These forms must be completed fully and returned to staff at check-in of your camp session. Parent/Guardian signatures are only required if the camper will be under 18 when they attend camp.

We will have extras of these forms at check-in, but it is helpful to have them completed in advance so that all we have to do is verify the form and hand you your keys for your home for the week!

The application period for 2018 CampRedhawk staff has closed. 

For summer 2018, we are hiring one Senior Nest Leader and four Nest Leaders. Positions will begin in late Febraury with planning meetings and recruitment events throughout the spring semester. The application deadline was Wednesday, January 24. Interviews will be scheduled for the week of January 29-February 2.
